This is the one factory speaker in the car that still worked. It sounded pretty good for a 20 year old oem speaker.

I hat to pull the rubber thingy off the bolt that the back seat latches to in order to remove the side panel to replace the speaker. I pulled it a little too hard I guess.

While replacing the rear speakers I had to remove the side panels. That required pulling the vinyl out from under the window seals. Now I have to figure out how to get it back under there. I'm told the windows have to come out.

These are the old Blaupunkts that were in the rear side panels. The one that worked sounded ok for a 20 year old speaker but the new ones sound much better.

Back together again.

I got the mess cleaned up behind the center console, took a lot of vaccuming and scrubbing. I decided to completely disassemble the console while I had it out and gave it a cleaning like it hasn't had one in 20 years. I fixed all the little wiring problems, installed the new radio and put it all back together.

I got the new Pioneer installed in the Porsche. It wasn't my first choice but it does what I need it to and it sounds very good for $79 at Walmart. The white display is easy to read but I wish the butons could change color. I really like the Aux input on the front but it didn't come with the cable to plug my mp3 player in. I had to improvise. You should see the mess of adapters I got to get it to work. lol!

Should this be plugged in?

Bare wires are always a joy to find. I think that is probably a ground wire, but it still should have been covered.

What a mess...

I was getting frustrated with the cd player not working since I installed the new speakers, so I decided to pull it out and take a look. I should have known better than to do that. It is a mess of wire, dirt and something that I assume is animal hair of some kind. I had hoped to find a nice wiring harness adapter in there but it looks like who ever installed the cd player 12 years ago cut the damned factory wiring instead. Figures. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it now. The only radio I have is a Kenwood tape deck that doesn't have a built in amp. It's older than the cd player that's in there now and I don't know for sure that it still works. I would have to run a power wire through the firewall to install an amp too. The only amp I have is old as dirt also. bah.

As usual, my second attempt at any thing goes much easier. The driver's side was a pain but the passenger side was smooth as butta. The speaker condom on this side was still sticking to the metal so I didn't have to mess with it at all. I also knew this time not to bother with the Porsche factory grill. I popped it in and screwed it down with no problems at all. Now I just have to wait on the weather to see if it was worth the money and trouble. The stupid 12 year old Kenwood cd player doesn't work if it's too cold or humid outside. [:(]

I got the drivers door speaker installed. What a pain it was. There is a thin rubber seal that goes behind the speaker to keep water from getting to the speaker. The adhesive isn't holding it in place anymore so I had to fight the thing to get it to stay in place. I finally got it all together and went to put the cover back on and it wouldn't fit. The tweeter sticks out too far for the Porsche factory grills. No big deal because they came with some decent grills but I didn't want to use them. Now I have to be sure to not lose the Porsche grills. [:(]

The new speakers for the 944 came in today. I ordered them from www.midwestelectronics.com and I can't wait to hear them.[H]
